Half done with the weekend

Plan for today was an easy pace 23 miler on the trails at Allerton Park. We’ve had a good bit of rain over the past week, so I figured the trail would be good and sloppy.

Sign re: floodplain at Allerton Park

Early on in the run, we came upon an educational sign explaining the nearby floodplain.

Standing at the sign, we could see the flood waters from the Sangamon River.

Soon after the sign was the first time that the trail was flooded out. Getting around the flooded area required a small bit of bushwhacking, but nothing major.

About halfway through the loop (it’s about a 6 mile loop course, and I was planning on 4 of the loops) was a much larger flooded section, where the group I was running with decided to turn back and run a slightly abbreviated loop.

You just finished your trail run - what are you going to do?

I ended up doing 4 loops, lost the GPS trace on my watch a couple times, and ran about 21-1/3 miles, with a 3/4 mile cooldown walk aftwards. Kept the pace on the slow side, with walk breaks every mile. Finish with an average speed (including the walk breaks, but not including the cooldown walk) of 13:34/mile

Met up with Kathleen for lunch afterwards, and had a fantastic Italian Beef at The Brown Bag in Monticello.
