Hitting the trifecta!
In the past 4 days, here’s what happened:
Got home from Iowa last Saturday to discover that I’d been accepted to the Emergency Management and Continuity Planning program at University of Illinois Chicago.
Received notice that I made it into the 72-Hour Race at Across The Years for this year. Yup, for 3 days, I’ll be going around and around and around on a 500m track. ...
80+ miles, 10-15MPH head/crosswind for the last half of the ride. Lunch, brief rest/Olympics. Now off for fun w/ lawn mower & weight vest!
16+ miler on loose gravel in racing flats followed by practice certification exam makes Shea a strange boy.
Out looking at the remaining Iowa City flood damage. Wow.

I’m visiting relatives currently, and planned to go out for a run this morning. What I quickly discovered after starting my run is that they’ve apparently recently laid fresh gravel on the road shoulder here.
I ran about 16.5 miles on the surface you see above. In lightweight racing flats.
Got back to the house, grabbed a quick shower and breakfast, then took (and passed!) my last...
Just passd by a sign advertising live bait and paintball supplies. No wonder I’m having trouble getting a cell signal.
Local weather alert predicted sever thunderstorm and the radar map looked bad, so I set the bike up on the trainer and did an 80 minute Spinervals workout. No storm hit. My trainer’s setup in the garage, which has no ventilation/fan. Over the course of an 80 minute workout, I lost roughly 4 pounds.

So, here’s what it takes to fuel me currently:
Pre-ride fuel - 1c tea, 1T coconut oil
Fuel for ride - 2 water bottles (each w/ 2sc Cytomax), 1 pkg Hammer Gel, 1 S!Cap, 1 AF-Cap
Post-ride breakfast - 2 slices whole-wheat/millet bread (1 w/ almond butter, 1 w/ blackberry jam), 1/2c granola, 1 peach, 2T oat bran, 8oz soy milk (w/ 2T rice protein and 1 sc Superfood)
Lunch - 1c brown...

Monday: AM - 6.12mi recovery run at 9:04/mi average pace PM - Gym Tuesday: AM - 5.37mi easy run at 9:56/mi average pace PM - 10.85mi cycling time trial. Little bit of headwind on the way out, quite hot Wednesday: AM - Rest PM - Rest Thursday: AM - Rest PM - Rest Friday: AM - 22mi training ride at 6 hour time trial pace PM - 5.75mi walk Saturday: AM - 70mi ride - attempting 6 hour time trial...
