I'm starting a jock emo band
our first single is either going to be: “It’s hard to do aerobic capacity intervals with a broken heart” or: ”It’s hard to run mile repeats when you’re crying”
missing Molly
Of all the days to live in a state that doesn’t allow smoking in bars
” I don’t try anymore, ‘cause only booze improves with age, I don’t fight anymore, but sometimes my fists clentch up in rage… I don’t pray anymore ‘cause too many of God’s children die, yes they do…” -Urge Overkill
RIP Molly. Hot dishes and absorbent shoulders appreciated.
molly’s home, doing guardedly better.
Molly’s ruptured the disc between her L4 and L5 vertebrae. She’s staying overnight at our vet, on a good bit of morphine, a large single dose of steroids, and IV antibiotics to try to stave off the immunosuppressive effects of the steroids. This is pretty much a one shot deal. Will know more tomorrow morning. Religious or not, your prayers are appreciated.
ready for spring. grumble.
recovered from 30 mile weekend surprisingly well
Went out to McNaughton Park this weekend. Due to a number of impassable river and creek crossings, the run was cut short, so I got in about 4-1/4 very hilly miles there. Grabbed brunch afterwards, then ran an additional 4-1/2 miles from the carpool point to home. Grand total between yesterday and today of 30.84 miles, and I’m feeling pretty good. A bit tired, but not bad.
Well, they’ve changed the predicted wind chill to a balmy -12F
heh. they’re currently predicting wind chill of -19F for my trail run tomorrow.
Half done with the weekend
Plan for today was an easy pace 23 miler on the trails at Allerton Park. We’ve had a good bit of rain over the past week, so I figured the trail would be good and sloppy. Early on in the run, we came upon an educational sign explaining the nearby floodplain. Standing at the sign, we could see the flood waters from the Sangamon River. Soon after the sign was the first time that...
thank god for Biofreeze
Ultrarunners do it longer
Yummy dinner tonight - 2 baked potatoes, Boca crumbles, and a fried egg. Pre-bed snack of apple and flaxseed oil. Back to back runs this weekend - 23 mile trail run at Allerton tomorrow, and 10 mile trail run on the McNaughton course on Sunday.
Owie
Speedwork in the morning yesterday followed by swim class last night. Most of the day today I felt like I’d been hit by a bus. Physical therapy and 60 minutes of medium-light spinning tonight seemed to help a bit.

0730. 35F out, 100% humidity. My hands are almost numb from the cold, my glasses are fogged completely over, and I’m sweating like mad. 1 mile warmup, 12x200m (@5:58.75 average pace) w/ 2:00 rest intervals, 1 mile cooldown
Mega-update
So, I’ve been nursing a knee issue since I ran 22 miles @ HUFF in late December, and it was steadily getting worse. Saw my doctor on January 14th, which was inconclusive, and they referred me to the local sports medicine clinic. 1 MRI and several doctor visits later, I find out that my right medial quad is a bit weak, knotted to hell, and as a result, the attachment point near my patella is...
